Mountain Berries.

Dad:

I took this photo a few days ago. The winter feels very cold. I have not had the chance to go outside much for a while. There are no leaves on the branches, let alone colors.

Today, I went to a nice and historic town. Suddenly, I found these shiny mountain berries hidden on a tree, which brought me joyful feelings and a big smile. Such a feast for the eye! I wish you were there with me. The town is old-fashioned and very stylish. I remembered that I sent you some spring photos before. This would make a great one for winter.

I recalled Teacher's Poem in Hongyin II (versionB)

Plum Blossoms
(in Yuan verse)

In the chaotic world, like pure lotus flowers—
plum blossoms, a hundred million
Cold winds only accentuate their beauty
The interminable snowfall and rain
are the tears of gods,
Who look longingly for the plum blossoms’ return
Never, ever get preoccupied with worldly things
Steel your righteous thoughts
For all [that you have gone through] since ancient times,
Was for none other than this time around.

Indeed, the cold winds only accentuate their beauty.
Dad, be brave and strong -- both are strengths that I learned from you.

Good night.

Your daughter,
Dandan
